It has long been known that sandblasting jeans is a dangerous practice that exposes workers to unnecessary health risks, but despite public outcry, many Chinese factories continue to use the technique. According to a new report , workers in the Chinese province of Guangdong — a region that produces roughly half of the world’s jeans — still use sandblasters, exposing them to silica dust , which can cause lung cancer and other deadly diseases. In light of these new findings, campaigners are calling for a mandatory global ban on sandblasted jeans.
